Winning the 2022 Dunedin Fringe Excellence Award

We had the enormous privilege of performing our take on Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at two beautiful venues at the 2022 Dunedin Fringe Festival this year.

When we found out The Barden Party had won a 2022 Dunedin Fringe Excellence Award, we had already flown to Wellington for the next leg of our New Zealand tour!

The Barden Party performs Shakespeare's plays at Waitati

Our first performance at Dunedin Fringe was held in the beautiful back garden of the Waitati Opera House - we learned about the rich history of the eclectic site, home to many artists before us. There were even sculptures of mushrooms and snails decorating the performance space and adding to the magical atmosphere.

The Barden Party performed Shakespeare in the ballroom of Larnach Castle

Our final performance was in the ballroom of Larnach Castle, built in 1871. It felt only fitting to be performing a Shakespeare play about lords and ladies in New Zealand’s only castle!

We had a great time travelling and performing around Dunedin, and can’t wait to return on our next New Zealand tour with ‘Much Ado About Nothing’!
